Second Life is not all sex, music and fashion, there are those among us who are in SL to educate others and to do their bit for charity and to raise awareness for issues that plague us out in the big bad real world.

One such place is the Non Profit Commons, where a collection of really lovely people meet in SL to promote RL charitable programmes. The Nonprofit Commons in Second Life is sponsored by TechSoup Global and is a programme of Caravan Studios and the TechSoup Global Community & Social Media team.

Nobody said life would be easy

so the saying goes

but really what is the point of misery

so much unhappiness surrounds us

every single day

It is so difficult to want to continue

when there just seems no good reason

everything is always such a hassle

no one is really happy

Expectations so often unrealistic

others frowning upon your choices

and being judgmental

oh how everyone is so good at that

how does life get so miserable

what is the point

I am so tired of – “Oh that’s life”

Why must I be the one to compromise

just to keep the peace?

Well if that is all life is going to be

then life sucks

SECOND LIFE® RESIDENTS JOIN GLOBAL CAMPAIGN “ONE BILLION RISING” TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

February 14, 2013 to be V-Day’s Largest Day of Action Ever
On February 14, 2013, for 24 hours starting at midnight Pacific Standard Time, Second Life residents will join with activists around the world in a spectacular 24-hour dance event for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest day of action in the history of V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. On February 14, 2013, men and women in Second Life will join activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities, and people across the world to Walk, Dance, and Rise as a show of unity, individual strength, and the need for change.

Words are the pixels that put together an understandable picture of my world. Words are the brushstrokes in a masterpiece—the fine lines, nearly meaningless alone, culminating in beauty and understanding together.

I simply love words.

I sit down at my computer and start typing—slowly at first, and then the flood comes over me. Words stream and flow, bubble up and mingle—until, at last, I step back from the strokes and see the picture. I see beauty. I see creation. I see a part of myself in black ink on the page.

Hi there

With the festive season now behind us the next big thing is Valentine’s Day and in conjunction with Ivy Maverick we thought it would be appropriate to investigate the state of SL relationships. As a result I will be putting together an article on SL relationships which will be posted on Ivy Maverick’s ‘Stuff Groups Blogs. To quote Ivy when we were discussing the project, we are looking for “the good, the bad and the ugly”. So what that means is we would like input from you on your SL relationship experiences regardless of what they are.

I have a few questions which if you have got time I would appreciate you answering. No names will be mentioned in the article unless you give us permission to publish your name. I will be drawing from the responses to these questions in my article. Our intention is for you to respond to the article on the blog once it is posted, should you wish to.

Luke stood at the window looking out across a stormy sea, thinking to himself that the weather emulated his grey mood perfectly.  His pain still raw.  His beloved Elaine taken from him so cruelly a year before.  It was the first anniversary of her passing and he still felt utterly bereft.  He couldn’t help himself, as the tears rolled slowly down his cheeks, no matter how many times he was told by well-meaning friends and family that he would be okay given time, he just didn’t see how.

AN X RATED INTERVIEW WITH MOHNA LISA

Mmmmmm, doesn’t he look delicious enough to want to unwrap slowly ….? Come with me then as I peel back the layers of the ever so gorgeous and enigmatic man that is Mohna Lisa.

Hello everyone.  This is my first post of what I hope will be many in the WomenStuff/MenStuff blog, where I will be interviewing the designers in both groups.

I have in my time as writer in SL had the opportunity to interview quite a number of designers and as a group within the SL community, fashion designers are a busy bunch but then we get to reap the rewards of their industriousness don’t we ….  On the whole I have found them to be great people.  Granted there are a few who have serious ego issues but then that is to be found in all parts of society.

Mohna Lisa he of the Mohna Lisa Couture brand is not one of those with ego issues, but he very definitely falls into the busy category!!

His store is a pure delight to behold and from a female perspective an absolute wonderland of utter gorgeousness (oh and that kind of includes the man himself).  This man knows how to make a lady feel really sexy but with class.

I eventually managed to pin Mohna down (ok not literally … that’s just wishful thinking)and he generously agreed to have a chat.

In memory of Courtesan DeCuir

As the various events for The Relay for Life for 2012 get ready to kick off I would like to share this story with you.

In 2007 one Courtesan DeCuir arrived in Second Life.  Courtesan DeCuir had been a cancer survivor.  With that said she took Relay for Life very seriously.  She even graced OD Designs once in tribute as her music Idol “Martina McBride” during Relay for Life to help those who were in need.  And another time we heard Courtesan speak once more through Martina McBride in the words of her release “I’m Gonna Love You Through It”.
