Flash Fiction Challenge – Terribleminds

lightning-bolts

Persia Silverblade:     Welcome Ms Preston, it’s good to have you here this afternoon.

(Time zones you’ve gotta love them)

Lexi Preston:  Thank you Persia, it great to be here.

I strike up a sashay, and meander towards the bar at the back of the club.  It’s a good place to observe people from.  And by observation I mean profile perving, but hey, that’s what they are there for.

DJ Metastar was playing mellow love songs and was taking requests.

DJ Metastar: Up next is a request going out to Lexi Preston from an admirer – Chris de Burgh’s Lady in Red.  Drop me an IM with your requests.  Lexi for you, enjoy.

Prison

What the Huck?

Keeping with the theme of bleakness and desolation, I followed a link in Ziki Questi’s blog to visit Prison, a creation by Cica Ghost.  Prison is a sim-sized installation of metal bars and doorways.  It’s stunning.

Snapshot_017

Parched earth, rusted metal, dry grasses, leafless trees.  It looks in one moment a vast, abandoned building site and in the next a post-apocalyptic ruin.  But neither of these descriptions really fit perfectly, because you understand straight away upon arrival that this construction is complete.  It is not something left unfinished or the result of destruction.  It is meant to be this way.  And that unsettles you.

Snapshot_001

There are two ways of exploring the island.  You can – and will, the moment you arrive – cam up into the air and start exploring the many angles and lines from there.

And you can also explore by foot.  Here and there are placed individual…

Second Life is a place we visit (2015) by Huckleberry Hax

Huckleberry Hax slpv“For some of us, our experiences in SL serve as a catalyst, an awakening, a leap in our level of personal consciousness which then needs to be fed into our real lives if its ultimate purpose is to be fulfilled.  For some, SL is a respite, a place to just pause and get our breath back.  For some, it is a playground, a chance to experiment with being something different.  For some of us, it is all of these things together.”

Huckleberry Hax has been writing about the virtual world of Second Life® for eight years.  This volume collects together 42 of these articles, including his monthly column for over two years at the celebrated AVENUE SL lifestyle magazine.

That’s Life

Blue dock

Nobody said life would be easy

so the saying goes

but really what is the point of misery

so much unhappiness surrounds us

every single day

It is so difficult to want to continue

when there just seems no good reason

everything is always such a hassle

no one is really happy

Expectations so often unrealistic

others frowning upon your choices

and being judgmental

oh how everyone is so good at that

how does life get so miserable

what is the point

I am so tired of – “Oh that’s life”

Why must I be the one to compromise

just to keep the peace?

Well if that is all life is going to be

then life sucks

For the Love of Words – By Kari Ann

Writing-writing-31044960-500-333
Words are the pixels that put together an understandable picture of my world. Words are the brushstrokes in a masterpiece—the fine lines, nearly meaningless alone, culminating in beauty and understanding together.

I simply love words.

I sit down at my computer and start typing—slowly at first, and then the flood comes over me. Words stream and flow, bubble up and mingle—until, at last, I step back from the strokes and see the picture. I see beauty. I see creation. I see a part of myself in black ink on the page.

Second Life making dreams come true

Second Life is regularly touted as a place to be what you want to be or do what you are unable to do in your real life.  And when one comes across an avatar with just such a story, of someone using SL to achieve RL dreams and overcoming RL’s cruel hand, it has to be told!!

I am incredibly honoured to introduce to you Johnathan Hiess.  Many of you will already know of him in SL as he is a well-known DJ who performs at a number of SL’s most popular dance venues, and who can sing too!!

A more self-effacing person I have not encountered in SL.  He is a man whose driving force has been to make a difference in the real world, especially for his children and his daughters particularly.  But in so doing his original ambitions of being a DJ in real life took the back seat. He was 16 years old and playing at KMEL Radio Station in San Francisco, but his Mom and Dad convinced him that he should go to school.  He went on to finish college majoring in criminal justice from Sonoma State.  The market was heavy with applicants at the time so he joined the Marines.
